Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller

397

The companion podcast to National Geographic’s Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller. In season two, investigative journalist Mariana van Zeller goes deep with masterminds behind black markets and underground economies, including illegal plastic surgery, meth labs fueling America’s addiction crisis, and a global marijuana smuggling empire built by high school surfers. Each episode pulls back the curtain on the player at the center: how they became involved, what it felt like to live in the shadows—and how it all crumbled in the end. Join Mariana in the underground, and don’t miss the TV show Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller on National Geographic and Hulu.

    Gripping!
I love this podcast - give it a listen! I don’t think you’ll regret it. The hosts are criminologists and their perspectives on cases is fascinating and quite engaging. I love that they tend to cover cases that are less known as well. One reviewer complained about “language” in the podcast; however, I haven’t ever noticed foul language!

Why are they hating yall for cussing?
I listened to a few episodes already and im hooked, but if other ppl have problems with the language then maybe they should grow eyes and a brain and check the rating.

    Important Contant but….
It’s important to understand the experience of people who’ve been in cults and been manipulated. Unfortunately, this podcast generalizes in a way that is offputting. You can tell stories and not interject your own opinion about how bad men are and that the whole society is patriarchal and this is why there are cults.

Podcast is great - fills the gap!
I’m a big fan of Nat. Geo. research, quality and willingness to establish itself with integrity and solid reporting. Of course, I have my Elem. students hooked in on the student research topics & student online Discovery mag,. and, personally, like my paternal grandfather, and my Mom, I, too, am a subscriber. Though that’s unrelated, it’s something I’m proud to state. I truly enjoy the TV series Mariana Van Zeller leads yet wasn’t able to find any solid (TV) filler shows of equiv. caliber in-between seasons. This podcast fills that absence with clear reporting, gripping interviews often w/very dangerous, underground criminals. aAnd yet, they’re so entertaining & informative that I often forget they aren’t visual. Thanks for the podcast! Love the travel around the globe & the education I’m gaining from your underground studies. Your show def. follows those who often ‘hide in plain sight,’ seemingly down into their secretive, dark warrens, then puts the permitted or secret mike & camera on the daily, covert, illegal biz.: very informative, indeed. Humans aren’t (technically) the rodent-like moles or gophers (made famous in Caddy Shack, of course), but many certainly try to follow their elusive, somewhat destructive patterns to survive and outwit those who chase after the violating, environmentally damaging critters. The NatGeo podcast & TV show highlight these frightening dirty businesses incredibly well. Thanks.

    Awesome
These stories are very very informative. I have only listen to three so far but I am so fascinated I plan on listening to everyone. They are some of the best stories based on real life activities that I have ever heard. Great job!

    Gritty and fascinating
Obsessed with this show! A wild trip into the underworlds of biker gangs, romance conmen, meth dealers, white supremacists—guided each time by a former practitioner of the dark art. I don’t love MVZ’s (the host’s) voice but the show is so fascinating it doesn’t matter!

    Great Podcast
These are really insightful balanced podcasts and a great add on to the show. Great to see there are still brave journalists that take on these topics and ask the tough questions without judgement - thanks!

Please release more episodes! Love your style of journalism.

    Political
Very misleading and one-sided. Why is it USA’s fault that Mexico gets their firearms from the US when they leave their boarder WIDE open and absolutely no checkpoints going from the US into Mexico? - But yet their gun crime is our fault?! Wow. - But at least she has some good undercover footage.

    So good!!
Loving this podcast! Need more! Will there be anymore? Only thing I don’t really care for is the background music/sound affects.

    Fabulous walking companion
Trafficked has become my favorite walking companion. I just can’t get enough of this podcast. The stories are detailed, entertaining and interesting and shared in a captivating and entertaining style. I wish there were more seasons and episodes!

    More?
I listened to the entire series and then watched the TV episodes and loved both formats. It was interesting to hear a deeper, singular dive on a specific related topic. Really appreciated the balanced reporting. Great concept to have both formats! Very interesting. Hoping to hear a second season soon!

Great and compelling with some production issues
The content is fascinating but there some. strange issues with the production of the podcast. There are places that simultaneous audio tracks and some sound effects are super loud in comparison to the spoken voices.
  • allansmw520
    Definitely one of my favorites...
Excellent companion piece that expands on the show with more excellent reporting of intriguing topics and characters. Marianna does a perfect job of delivering a substantive telling of stories that I have found to often fall flat in the past. The analysis goes much further than other shows I’ve seen/heard that tend not to delve much beyond the shallow “guns, money, drugs, sex” glamorization that is so common in this genre. Can’t wait to see/hear where it develops in the future, I’m definitely along for the ride.
  • KyleN32
    A must listen to.
I’m thoroughly enjoying the television show so I decided to check out the podcast. It’s one of the best investigative journalism podcast I’ve ever listened to. Thank you for making this!

    Quality PodCast
Real criminals tell there story like it was, also how there was no happy ending to their criminal life’s but certainly a second chance that is not usual to criminals. 👍👍to the presenter she is elegant in her questions and avoids the noice usually now present on this type of pot cast. If you mejor real crime and real stories it’s a must listen. I certainly enjoy the guest and the calm voice of the interviewer.

    Número uno
I absolutely love everything Mariana does. She could make a story about librarians interesting. When I heard she had a podcast after having been a fan of Vanguard and now Trafficked on Nat Geo I had to check it out. Not to mention her work on the OxyContin express was also mind blowing. Keep up the good work Mariana!!!

    Excellent Interesting Speaker
I first found out about Mariana Van Zeller on Joe Rogans podcast and I was so happy. Her talking points have been the most interesting I've heard on a conversational podcasts in some time. She also brings a strong background and reputation as a boots on the ground reporter. She's awesome! Big Fan!

    One word.
    RAW!!!!!!!!

    One criticism
Some of the background noises are just distracting. The phone dial tone is one of the worse offenders IMHO.

    First true modern reporter
I’ve been a serious fan of her news reporting since current TV. She smart, knows how to investigate a story and deliver the truth of her findings. NatGeo has one of the best journalist on thier team now!

    Excellent.
I enjoy watching Trafficked on National Geographic Channel as I am learning so much from Mariana’s reporting. You and your Camera Crew are amazing. I feel the same about her Podcasts. I have listened to both of the Podcasts and will definitely be listening every week. I am learning and getting a different perspective on issues. Thank you and National Geographic for both your TV and Podcasts production.

I watched this on tv and was blown away. Don’t watch at your own peril. This is investigative journalism at it’s best. Mariana is a big Abe woman and a great reporter kudos to her and her intrepid team who chase these stories all over the world.
